Myshkin has been touring non stop for over a decade, became an underground
legend in her old home town of New Orleans, has released eight records, and been
honored with awards and much critical praise. She has brought her literate,
haunting music to stages from London to Melbourne, and collects more fans
worldwide with each quietly stunning record. A rare intelligence and dark humor
inform her song writing, her voice is one in a million, and she picks a mean
guitar. Her good fortune in attracting skilled and inventive band mates makes
every Ruby Warblers show and recording a subtle wonder. Raina Rose was born on
the day the music died, she sings songs of long travels, stay-behinds, time that
plays tricks and governments that play tricks. "Her voice is clear and sweet,
recalling at times Suzanne Vega or Dirty Martini's McKinley, and even -- when
she opts for a slip-and-slide sort of phrasing popular with young female folkies
these days -- Ani DiFranco. She is most compelling when she gets serious, as in
the ruminative See You Singing, on which her multitracked vocals create a
haunting effect, or the dark literary vignette Back Alley Butcher.... Suffice to
say, this moth has taken wing.
