Create Community at BrasilFest 2007
Music, dance, workshops and more fill Seattle Center from noon - 8 p.m. Aug. 19 at the annual BrasilFest, Brazilian Cultural Festival.
The event includes a variety of music including samba, classical guitar and percussion performances as well as Brazilian films, arts and a variety of children's activities.
At 7 p.m., follow the drumbeat to "Jamming on the Roof," where dozens of participants bring their own drums to a percussion parade from the Mural Amphitheater to Fisher Pavilion.
Special Performances:
Grupo Brasil Tchê, 1 p.m., Center House Stage
This New Jersey-based group of 11 children and 5 adults showcase dances of the "gaucho" or Brazilian cowboy culture from the far south of Brazil. The group will hold a workshop at Fisher Pavilion at 3 p.m. for children age 6 and older with games, storytelling and dance.
Sergio Augusto, 4 p.m., Center House Stage
Enjoy the classical guitar in the style of the famous Bossa Nova music of Brazil with a musician who was enmeshed in the scene in 1960s Sao Paulo. After 25 years, he returned to the music scene several years ago with his clear, smooth voice and a passion for this soulful Brazilian music.
